Our
History and Who We Are
Ed Larkin founded the
Ed Larkin Old
Time Contra Dance group in 1934. He was a well-known fiddler
and
prompter in central Vermont who noted the decline in popularity of the
traditional contra dance of the region as swing and ballroom dance
styles became the fashion. He founded our dance performance
group
"to foster and perpetuate the Contra Dance." Mr. Larkin lead
the
group until his death in 1954. Then the group continued on,
hosting monthly dances open to the community, as well as
putting on demonstrations in period dress.
